Thank you for being someone's star!

Thank you Greater Wellington for getting behind our 2017 Christmas Star Appeal! Your support of this appeal has made an incredible difference both at Christmas and into the New Year.

Because of your support:

  • Close to 1,650 food parcels were given out in November and December – that’s approximately 1,200 Christmas food parcels, 350 regular food parcels, and 100 Christmas Day Hampers – helping feed more than 3,000 people!
  • Approximately 1,700 children received new gifts.
  • We supported clients of 38 other community agencies we work with throughout Greater Wellington, including Red Cross Refugee Services, Newtown Union Health, Te Waka Whaiora, Lower Hutt Family Centre, Kahungunu Whanau Service and Birthright. This is an increase from the 31 agencies that we supported in 2016.
  • Over 420 Christmas Star Boxes were filled with food and gifts.
  • Over 270 stars were displayed on our Walk of Fame - a record number!
  • We held three sittings of our Drop-in Centre Christmas hākari (feast) – the first for volunteers, then two sittings for guests – catering for 100 people in total.
  • 170 people from more than 15 organisations and groups volunteered to sort food and gifts and make up Christmas parcels, and hundreds collected on Street Day.

You can still donate to The Mission at any time by clicking the 'Donate' button above, or by dropping off food and other goods. Thank you!

About the Wellington City Mission

The Wellington City Mission has been helping Wellingtonians in need for over 110 years.

The Mission prides itself on being open to anyone who needs assistance – regardless of their religious belief, age, ethnicity or social background. Our four Mission programmes (Families, Youth, Independence, and Seniors) assist a range of people living in Greater Wellington’s communities. The Mission also operates an elder care residential facility (Kemp Home & Hospital).

We believe in providing holistic support to those who need help, offering access to all our programmes in response to need. Together, we work to identify and address people’s underlying issues to create positive outcomes.
