Thank you for being someone’s star this Christmas

Thank you to every individual, family, business, team and group that has supported our Christmas Star Appeal this year! Thanks to your generous support, The Mission has been able to:

  • Provide Christmas food parcels to feed over 3,500 people.
  • Provide Christmas gifts for over 2,100 children.
  • Supply food and gifts to 44 other community service agencies that The Mission collaborates with, including: Red Cross Refugee Services, Challenge 2000, and Birthright.
  • Deliver more than 100 special Christmas Day Hampers on Christmas Eve. These hampers include: chicken donated by Tegel, sausages from The Mad Butcher, hams from Hellers, chocolate from Whittaker's, and sweet treats from Good Bitches Baking - plus other Christmas food and gifts that have been donated by the community.
  • Supply Christmas food and gifts for several local Christmas Day meals such as Aro Valley Community Centre's 'Room at the Inn', and 'Everybody's Christmas' at Carerra Park in Newtown.

This has only been possible because of the generous support The Mission has received throughout the Christmas season. People, businesses, teams and groups have helped in many different ways, including filling over 500 ‘Christmas Star Boxes’ with food and gifts, taking part in the iconic ‘Pack the Bus’ campaign, purchasing a record number of stars on the Christmas Walk of Fame, volunteering their time, and donating financially.

Wellington City Missioner Murray Edridge says he has been blown away by the support The Mission has received this festive season. “To serve those in our communities who are doing it tough, we rely on the generosity of people, teams, groups and businesses all across the Wellington region. We are very grateful to receive such wonderful support from so many. Whether you have helped The Mission this Christmas by volunteering your time, donating goods-in-kind, or making a financial contribution, you have enabled us to be there for those most in need right across our region, so thank you."

Thanks for being someone's star this Christmas!

About the Wellington City Mission

The Wellington City Mission is a charitable trust affiliated to the Anglican Church. We have been helping those most in need in the Wellington region for over 114 years, beginning in 1904 as part of St. Peter’s Church. In 1929, an Act of Parliament established The Mission as a separate entity.

Through our four key programmes – Mission for Families, Mission for Youth, Mission for Independence, and Mission for Seniors – we provide holistic practical support to a broad range of people, from struggling families, to at-risk youth, and vulnerable older people. The assistance we provide includes food parcels, hot meals, advocacy, education, financial mentoring, and social work support. We also operate an elder care residential facility called Kemp Home & Hospital.

We are open to anyone who needs assistance – regardless of their religious belief, age, ethnicity or social background. Together, we work to identify and address people’s underlying issues to create positive outcomes.
